Matt 7:7
“Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you.”
It had been a long morning. Jim and I had hunted up a big ridge above Uyak Bay on Kodiak Island since daylight. Now it was approaching noon and we had fought brush all the way. We were looking for a place to glass for blacktail deer. After finding no openings in the brush big enough, we decided to walk back down into the valley through a mile of narrow creek bottom.
Walking in these types of confined areas, in the middle of brown bear haunts, was not the best idea but it was easier than the way we had been going.
A few minutes into our descent we jumped a deer and it was soon swallowed up by the thick brush. Instinctively, I let out a call like a distressed fawn, in an attempt to call it back. Surprisingly, instead of a deer responding to that call, a huge, half ton charging bear came crashing in looking for an easy meal. Luckily for me, Jim panicked and pulled the trigger on his rifle stopping the bear at about 20 ft.
As the bear turned to leave I started praying for God's protection for Jim and myself. We were in a bad spot and needed to get out quickly. Fortunately we escaped out of the creek bottom to the ridge top above. God provided the way and saved our lives that day.
Too many people are not persistent in their asking, seeking and knocking, so they are unable to find the way out of their problems. God promises to provide a way out of our problems. His promise is sure and the only condition is how determined we are to ask, seek and knock until He opens the best door. He will provide!
Remember that the way that we think is the best isn't always so. Sometimes it seems like the valley is the best place to get out, when really it’s the ridge top. To find the way, we have to ask.
Isa. 55:8,9
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
