Christian Bowhunters of America places the highest priority on the distribution, reading and study of the Bible, the Word of God. We have New Testaments (free of charge) and Bibles available to anyone who wants them.
A mandate from the Bible itself is found in II Timothy 2:15, “Study to show yourself approved to God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (understanding) the Word of truth.” Paul goes on to tell Timothy the reason for this mandate in II Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” That all spells out how to become a successful Christian.
As bow hunters, we understand the desire and details of success. The greatest chance for bowhunting success is to know the habits of the game pursued. We need to know their bedding area, their food preferences, their travel patterns and much more in order to gain optimum success. We must read, study and work at it to learn these things. The very same process is necessary if we are to be a victorious Christian.
There is an acrostic for the word B I B L E which I like. (Author unknown) “Basic Information Before Leaving Earth.” So, what is this basic information we need to know?
The first book of the Bible is Genesis and it is vitally important because it gives us the origins of our world and its resources. It tells us that God designed all things including us. (Genesis 1-2) We and all that surrounds us are products of intelligent design and not a process of evolving matter. Genesis tells us of the beginning of sin also (Genesis 3).
The rest of the Old Testament’s 66 books is a history of God’s special people, the Jews, through whom He has revealed Himself to us and through whom He will continue to perfect the destiny of the world and the people in it.
The New Testament is composed of 27 books that reveal the life and work of Jesus, God’s Son, our Savior, and the plan of salvation from our sin. The way to have peace with God is through justification by faith alone in Jesus. The New Testament also tells how to live as a believer in Christ and how to share our life in Christ with others.
The book of Acts identifies the work of the first century Church and the ascension of Jesus back to heaven. The words of Paul, Peter, James and John are vital for us to know also. They help us develop proper behavior that exemplifies the Christian walk while on earth. And the Revelation of Jesus Christ, the only book in the Bible that promises a blessing to those who read it (Revelation 1:3) reveals the future plan that God has for our world including His return to earth. (Revelation 22:20) Dr. Chuck Missler has aptly said, “Christ is coming again, not to take sides but to take over.” That is information we need to know because it gives us hope in the midst of current chaos.
Need I remind you that the Bible also tells us we have a beginning and an ending to our earthly life here. It tells us we will live forever somewhere, either with Christ in Heaven, or in Hell, a prepared place of judgment and torment. It is your choice.
This is all basic and necessary information we need to know now. As for me, I like the ‘Heaven with Christ’ plan. “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither hath entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love Him.” (I Corinthians 2:9)
If we would give the same attention to the Bible as we do our bows, arrows and hunting plans, it would never be far from our thoughts and hands. Are you as interested in becoming a successful Christian as you are becoming a successful bow hunter? If not, it’s time to change some priorities!
